Фикус карика, так же известен как смоковница, фига или инжир. Всё это одно и то же растение родом с Ближнего Востока. Оно относится к семейству тутовых и произрастает на плодородной, слабокислой или нейтральной почве. Жизненная форма Ficus carica: дерево или крупный кустарник достигающее высотой 9 — 10 м.
В древние времена именно инжир был главным спасением при неурожае зерновых. В сушеном виде он хранился очень долгое время и являлся основным продуктом питания. Смоковница — очень богата на витамины, микроэлементы и сахар. Она плодоносит трижды в год и отличается мягкой, сладкой, зернистой сердцевиной, заключенной в приплюснутую грушевидную форму.

Благоприятные условия
Уже очень давно инжир был облагорожен и ныне он благополучно выращивается в горшках и кадках. При должной температуре (+8˚С) его необходимо выносить на улицу или балкон. Постепенное привыкание к прямым солнечным лучам и обильный полив весной и летом — это залог обильного плодоношения. Удобрения применяемые весной должны включать азотосодержащие вещества, а летом — с доминированием фосфора и калия. Подкармливать необходимо так, что бы не вызвать обильного прироста побегов.
Инжир в домашних условиях
В период «покоя» (с октября по январь) необходимо уменьшить полив и переместить растение в обстановку с низкими плюсовыми температурами. Инжир — это растение листопадное и теневыносливое и при необходимости нуждается в многократном опрыскивании оставшихся листьев. При несоблюдении правил ухода за Ficus carica он может отращивать очень слабые, тусклые листья, побеги и выйти из спячки обессиленным.
Пересадка и уход

Пересаживать растение можно начинать в феврале, в период его активного роста. Необходимо участить полив, переставить его в светлое место и подкармливать удобрениями с содержанием азота. Именно в этот период начинает отрастать лиственный покров, появляются соплодия, которые будут вызревать вплоть до июля. Плоды необходимо срывать только полностью созревшие и уже не содержащие млечный сок.
Ficus carica активно используется в медицине как противораковое лекарство.
Отвар из листьев принято принимать при болях, бородавках и для рассасывания геморроидальных узлов. Для улучшения пищеварения и лактации у кормящих прибегают к употреблению соплодий, отвар применяют для распаривания нарывов и опухолей.
